feeding hatchlings Empty
PostSubject: feeding hatchlings   feeding hatchlings EmptyWed Jan 02, 2013 1:25 am

I am new to the world of Koi and to the forum. I put in a 4,000 + gallon pond in July and initially put in 10 small Koi. Their growth was quite rapid as they reached 7-8 inches in a matter of a couple of months. I was also given three Koi between 18 ad 22 inches that were introduced a couple of weeks after the initial 10, I was waiting to see how the small ones survived.

Apparently there are male and female in the three big fish because I had a fall hatching. It is difficult to tell but there appears to be 20-30 small fish. They now range in size between about 2 1/2 to 3 inches.

The pond is now hovering around 45 degrees and I am worried about the small ones making it through the winter without food. Has anyone had experience with this and what should I do? It is kind of neat that a large percentage of the fish in my pond were hatched there and I would like to keep them alive.
