Feeding my koi. Empty
PostSubject: Feeding my koi.   Feeding my koi. EmptyMon Jun 07, 2010 8:46 am

My koi is eating still the same as in summer. They are very active and will come to the feeding ring even when I just go and sit to watch them.

1. Must I start feeding them less?
2. Can it be food I feed them that don't provide them everything they need?
3.Can it be harmfull to them to feed them normal as in the summer?

Hi Christo,

My koi is about the same they just want to eat. I am feeding a bit less, about 60% of normal, as they are eating a bit slower than usual, it seems to be ok, water is still around 14C.

I am trying something this year.

I often hear the koi are suppose to experience a winter in which they eat less. Apparently if one starves them through winter then one has better growth during the summer and the overall health of the fish is better.

So i have dropped my feeding to only 60g a day. Thats 60g for 18 kois. In July which is our coldest month i will starve them for the whole month. This is my own experiment, i want to see if they come out better looking and without eggs in spring time.

My water is still warm, 18'C which is rather high for this time of year.
