| I agree with no salt and 50% water change.
Albie, personally I will not add unknown Koi to my pond. I am aware you had fatalities, even so the risk is big and small Koi are more susceptible to the pond conditions.
When I originally suggested kamikaze Koi I hoped you had a donkey or two from your own stock that you can take a change with.
I have 2 in my collection, I call them "panvis" that have been doing all the companion work in my Qt and will the the first in my new pond. |

| Well, I dont know.
Put two in on Friday, a small one and a 40 cm one. Small one died within 24 h, so I removed the big one.
Yesterday, I decided to put the big one back again. I bypassed the waterfall and 24h later, the big one is still alive.
Let's see what happens this week. Departing today |

| Hi Albie
What is the latest state on the pond and did you found out what killed the fish? |

| Well, at least I,m progressing/winning??
I bypassed the waterfall last week and the Bekko (poor quality) survived. I added another one yesterday, turned on the waterfall- this morning, both are fine. I think I might add another one today. I'm again away this week, but then home for a month when the big transfer will happen.
Luckily the bio media is still fine, but some are loose and I would like to put them in bags. Does anyone know where I can buy some of those lemon bags? |

| Albie you can try Fruit and Vegs. In Bloem they sell it at about R1 a bag or maybe you will be lucky and get it free of charge
Fruit and Veg City: Shop 1 – Cnr of Veld and Glen road, Glen Marias. Tel 972 1350
You can also try Makro:
16 Herman Road, Germiston, 086 030 4999 |

| I went to the fruit and veg there by greenstone and they had nothing - however I have been told that makro is the best place to buy |

| Still not at home, but three fish have survived in the new pond- two for one week and the other one for two weeks.
Then I got the news from my very upset domestic helper that a "big yellow fish" has died in the portapool. Hopefully it is not my newish yellow ogon.
I decided to take the chance and my daughter transferred all the fish from the portapool to the new pond. My sand filter and UV light is running to that pond, but the bio filters are still connected to the portapool. I will change everything tomorrow afternoon, so that the bio filters are connected to the main pool.
My question now is- what about nitrite and ammonia spikes? Should I only test for those two now and how often? |

| I had nitrite spikes about 3 weeks after starting up my pond. Ammonia spikes will occur before that but since you have an established filter system you should not have problems. I have tested mine daily during the trouble period but once things are going you can test it weekly I think |

| are you going to transfer the current porta pool water into the new pond.......I would imagine that to be a good idea at the same time of transfer.......would ease the transfer for them. |

| Yes, with the water change last week, I added about a third of the water to the pond. I'm just not sure today, because the fish has died, but they have been in confinement for so long that one could have expected more fatalities.
I will try to connect the biofilters this afternoon. |

| I recently bought bags (packed in 100's) from Transvaal Bag Company in Pretoria @ R75 per 100. They're about 1 km south of the Pretoria Fresh Produce market in DF Malan Drive. Tel 012 3273756. Check your local Yellow Pages under heading "Bags". |

| A few pictures, but I'm still trying to get all the filters in place. At least I have seen some algae started to grow on the sides. Will post pictures of my "complicated" filtration system later. After all the hassle, the pond looks the same, just deeper!! [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]] I need advice here- Water enters the pond via the Venturi and the waterfall and exists through two low pressure pumps and a top drain. The entering points and exit points are too close together. I have used a pipe half water half air in the past to separate the streams, but any advice will be appreciated. | Cliff,
Not really, stopped using it. Using AquaNutro.
In my opinion Shogun makes Koi develops a “pot-belly”.
Yes, I did mention it to Chris. |
