PostSubject: Controlling water quality   Controlling water quality EmptyMon May 19, 2008 7:02 pm

On Koi Keepers 4 DVD, one of the BKKS GC title holders mentioned that one must use purified water to get good quality koi to blossom...

Now what i want to know is, what must one do other than the normal water checks? What is purified water? How does one go about purifying water?

Hi Wayne

Purification of water is only necessary if your water source (ie well point) have impurities in it like iron, sulfur, too much magnesium or chloramines(tap water).

Babies are more susceptible to these impurities, and if they are present, the water should first go threw a filter designed for the specific impurities in that water source(ie an iron filter)

It is more applicable to other countries where the underground water is often not as good as ours.

They use large reverse osmoses purifiers in the UK and then mix this with tap water to get the correct Total Desolved Solids.
Koi looks best and grows best is soft water with low TDS.
Like the water in Japan.
