Q, 2" pipes is a bit small. I don't have bigger pipes here , only two and four inch...so what I did is to put a Y at the end of the pump and have two pipes going to the sand filter with another Y before they enter it. All my pipes are double...so I can reduce friction a bit. I can not figure out what is happening...maybe to explain each picture???edit and put small explanation????

Looking good Q! I would have used Y instead of T...it is less restrictive... I would have put a Y at the pump and started two separate pipes from there going to the sand filters.... This configuration will reduce your flow by 20% at list if not more.

Eish Quinton, i am seeing far too many 90' bends - not good. Should rather have used 2 45' bends or long bends.

Q, Do it my darling! It is so simple to change the 90* with 45... And to put a separate pipe to each SF...U will be surprised how much your flow will increase... Try and measure your flow now...change it and measure it again... We are not just talking...it is a fact. I used almost 200 bends 45* on my new pond...there is not a single T or ninety bend... My pipe works around the pump look like spider web... Plus they are double...where it matters...like intake they are double...from the pump each return has separate pipe...some have a common one with valves at the end...since I plan to use one or the other.

Hi all Thanks for the pics. Helps others to SEE how it is done. I only have one problem. Where the beep beep do one find y-pieces here in the east rand. I have asked around and nobody seems to know where to find it. I need to make changes to my system ( have to many 90 deg bends). I also need to fit a second sandfilter but I cannot find the correct fittings. Having a liner pond, I use a "bottom" drain that is on top of the liner. Still experimenting with this one. I think I have too many holes in the pipe. Any suggestions? Hope to post a photo or two after this weekend. Regards

Yes, when you go to the bigger pipe fittings you can only find hi-pressure fittings and they are expensive. That is why it is so important to design and refine your design over and over before gluing the fittings.

U can find the cheaper fittings here up to 4" pipe fittings...so I am sure U have them there too for they come here from SA. |
