Feeding ring Empty
PostSubject: Feeding ring   Feeding ring EmptyTue Jan 11, 2011 2:22 pm

Someone suggested a few months ago that I should replace my feeding ring with one from polysterene, with holes in it and plant water cress in it. (I cant find the original post)

This is what I thought was meant:

The holes go right through into the water. The water cress was growing Or should I just put in the quite nicely and my daughter "planted"/put it in the holes.

Within a few days there was not a sign of any water cress. I suppose the koi ate it??

Any suggestions? Or should I just leave some of the plants in the water stream?

Hi Albie, water cres will definately be eaten by the koi if placed directly in the pond as it is very tasty.

It works fine in veggie filters but not in a pond. I use to take all the water cres leaves out of the salad packets bought from Pick a Pay and throw in in my veggie filters. Within a day or two they have roots and multiply nicely in the nutrient rich pond water.

I do not think they will do good in a stream but it is worth a try.

I do not think any plant in a feeding ring is a good idea because it will be eaten, but I might be wrong.

Hi Paul

How do you let them grow in the veggie filter? Do you use gravel in one of those veggie plastic buckets with holes in it so that water van flow through or??

Albie

I don't think plants is a good idea in a pond, I have removed all mine recently. They go anaerobic and you have lots of problems.
