Fungus Empty
PostSubject: Fungus   Fungus EmptyTue Jan 04, 2011 12:03 pm

Received this enquiry this morning:

Please have a look at the attached picture.

We just returned from holidays and one of the fish is hanging in one side of the pool, not moving just about and has a green fluffy thing on his tail and also in his mouth.

Do you know what it is? It looks fungus to me. How to treat it? where to get the medicine if anything is indicated?

I´ll appreciate your help

Best regards

Alberto

Alberto, it appears to be fungus, (maybe purely accumulation of algae) but the fungus if present will only be a secondary problem. This fish has dropsy (scales protruded with eyes bulging a bit) and the bacterial infection has spread so far.

In view of the quality of fish, I would put it out of it's misery, which will also prevent the infection and fungus from spreading to your other fish.

There are no real treatment for dropsy although some people feel that you can possibly treat effectively with Virkon S and Acriflavine with salt ??
