One of my fish is developing a cotton wool type of sore. What would the best treatment be for this? I have seperated the fish and placed it in an aquarium fish tank.

Your problem sounds like a fungus.

Fungus diseases are normally secondary diseases that kicks in after a parasitic or bacterial disease. It normally show itself by cotton like threads covering an open soar. The most common fungus are Saprolegnia and Branchiomyces, and you should isolate the infected fish as soon as possible as you have done already, because it is highly infectious.

We have quite a lot of success with malachite green @ 1g per 10 000 liters, or follow the indication on the bottle if you buy it in liquid form.

Increase the aeration when you treat. You can also disinfect the wound itself with a bit of undiluted malachite green.

Observe the remaining fish in your pond carefully, because they might also be affected.

It is normally caused by poor water conditions, so check your conditions with a test kit and solve the root of the problem also.

Increase your salt level after the treatment to 3kg/1000 liters. (10 cups)

It is very important not to use malachite green and salt at the same time. As Admin says first treat with the malachite green and thereafter do the salt.
