Hi Michael

You do get it that some koi, even from the same batch, just do not grow.

Often when a koi's growth was retarded due to lack of space when young, for instance a koi that was kept in a dealer's small selling pond for too long, never grow as it should.

Not much you can do. Maybe combine sinking pellets with floating pellets to ensure that he also get some.

He/she is very skinny and probably a male.

thanks for the reply.
ill try and get sinking pellets, i also make peanut butter, galic and honey sandwiches, and 2 minite noodles, and rince knw and then, then he gets to eat.

is there a reason why some koi once they have reached the 55- 58cm, they seem slow down growing?
i was just wondering?

Mainly genetics. Most Japanese breeders nowadays introduce Jumbo bloodline into their breeding programs. Just look at the growth rate of Sakai (SFF) fish compared to other.

I had a Sanke that use to do the same thing ,i moved it to my quarantine tank with small koi and i was impressed grew well after a 6 moths period i put it back in my main pond now one of the first to come and eat ,when they small they tend to get scared of the bigger koi and rather move away.hope this helps

Hi

I have a tancho wich for the last 6 months was much the same, also didn't grow much largely because he never ate much, although of late now i think the hunger has overcome the fear of the bigger fish cause he now mixes it up with them without a problem.

I think it if you give him time hell come around.

Cheers
Lee
