The following Hirasawa Hi Utsuri's are out there hopefully growing well for the Western Cape grow and show competition, to be judged at the 2010 annual koi show.



Who is Hirasawa?




Mr Hirasawa is the owner of Murusei Koi Farm. He started in the mid fifties with breeding and has become nowadays most probably the largest breeder in Niigata, there is no breeder around where stocks seems to last as long. Without any ending, millions of fish are produced by Mr Hirasawa and his family. Almost all varieties are offered in all sizes, but Hirasawa is famous in japan for especially large jumbo fish of all varieties. He is well known for his very large Chagoi, Hi Utsuri and Yamabuki Ogons.

This is a photo of one of Hirasawa's Hi Utsuri's just harvested. At three years already 77 cm. Hope to see this type of growth.

Paul as i was away are there any of those left and will the guys let me join in the grow and show i will donate the money to the cause maybe even a little more, but im sure if there are any left they are the ugly duckling but ill turn it into the swan.

Hi Shawn, I will give you one for free in view of the amount you have spend with us, but it would not be fair towards the others enter the competition. I had to draw a line after a few people requested to still enter.

Let me be the first to show my Hi-Utsuri from our auction on 04 October 2009
I removed mine today after more than 2 months from QT to my 10 000lt pond and want to challenge all our members to show there Hi-Utsuri's. Can you spot them in the first bucket of Koi posted by Paul the sponsor of these Koi ?

Sadly I lost one of my Hi-Utsuri's in my 10000 lt pond. When I got home the one waterfall pump that operates via a 50mm mid-water suction pipe to my bakki shower was off. Once I got pump started up again the Hi-Utzuri floated on the water, she must have found a way to enter the pipe and got stuck. Never had this problem before but she must also be the smallest Koi ever to be placed in this pond.

Bob pressure can do that to a fish, often we don't realise how much of a toll our aspirations and expectations take on a fish. Competitition is tough, there are always going to be winners and losers. Sometimes they choose to end it and we don't know why.

On a more positive note - here is a picture of my utsuri - she has grown since the last pic, and has really outstripped Jonathans one for size (also included in pic)

Dis wonderlik as die vrou die Koi-man so bystaan. Ek het geweet en nog voor ek kon vra is die Kohaku Avatar op sy plek. Nou ja Drikus en sy bondgenoot steek julle ander in die skande, so op die ou jaar.

Drikus and Christie measures my Hi-Utsuri after only 10days out of Qt and it's already now at 27cm. So Drikus and the rest of you the show is on, I have not even used my secret ingredient for growing this into a monster.

Hi All

I was wondering if anyone has a net bigger than 1200mm diameter
as I have been unable to catch my Utsuri as it is so big!!!!.
I will happily send a photo once I can get at least three guys to come help me catch her!!!LOL

Quinton has been the custodian of my fish while I was moving
and feeds mine on Cheap food , while hand feeding his with HIKARI!!
Are there and rules about cheating like this???
Surely he should be penalised!!!
