Van Dyk's magnificent seven
21/04/2008 17:26 - (SA)
Boston - Ernst van Dyk left no doubt in the men's wheelchair race of the Boston Marathon.
Last year, the South African failed in his bid for a record seventh straight Boston Marathon victory, losing to Masazumi Soejima of Japan. This year, he led from start to finish to win Boston for the seventh time in 1 hour, 26 minutes, 49 seconds.
It was the second slowest time in his seven victories.
He won by a huge margin. No one was near him when he crossed the finish line on Boylston Street.
Van Dyk said before the race he intended to make up for last week's London marathon disappointment.
The South African was denied a third-place finish when he and American Joshua George collided about 20 metres from the line in London. He got back in his wheelchair and finished 6th.
WELL DONE ERNST!!
