I received these pic from Ernst, I am sure he will fill in the gaps and answer your questions.

He is building a pressure system in the garage and a filter pit next to the pond for gravity fed and low voltage pump with a heavy flow rate.

Filterpit:
2 separate lines from bottom drains – see slide valves. First vortex for pure settlement, second with Stainless Drum (by Dreamkoi) with static media. Third Vortex will have a active biological filter bed. Then into pump chamber where we will a Jap-matting cartridge and a PC 1800 pump that will return 18 000l/h for 150 Watts via a 75mm inlet into pond. We will have two lines like this abave mentioned.

Pressure system indoor:
Mid water pickup and skimmer to new Speck eco touch pump – then to Multicyclone – then to two bead filters in parraell. From Bead filter 1 via 55WW UV to SFF style shower filter gravity feeding back to pond. From Beadfilter 2 we have some mid water returns and a old school protein skimmer – soon to be replaced by Clarity unit. This pump will run on the low setting using 0.4kw/h. UV will only be used when needed. So the system will run on 0.7kw/h for pumps and 0.16kw/h for air pumps.

Sound very interesting Bobby I am sure everyone is watching this closely. Me definitely in view of my future plans, I especially like those long bends on the 75mm pipe line.

Is it not possible to replace or eliminate some of the 90 degree bends.

Hi Neville - as I'm allready way over budget on the house project I had to use what I had in stock first - therefore the 90 bends. My main priority on the the pressure line was to polish the water and get as much water to the shower filter as possible. Thats why you see the easy bends on that line. I'm also running the two beadfilters in parallel and at the moment there is no pressure on the line as the protien skimmer is not really producing any foam and that unit needs a bit of back pressure from the pump to function - that's why I think although there are some 90 bends in the system - ther is not a lot of flow loss at this stage - especialy since I'm running the eco touch pump on the .4kw setting. This pump is really amazing - my electrician tested it and what they claim about it is true. The flow is also quite high I must admit - higher than my .45kw spa pump use to produce. At the moment only the pressure line is running and my water with full koi population is allready crystal clear. cheers

Yes Ernst, as you say with the lower flow rate the losses will be minimal I agree. One is just so set in trying to avoid them that when I see that and I see small suction lines I tend to over react a bit. I think you will be fine.

Next time I visit the Mountain I would love to come and see your setup

Thanks for all the info here it is valuable stuff for us.

Dan gaan my koi mos dink hulle is forelle met so 'n stroom!

Hi Ernst

As die 110mm pyp net 14 000l/h lewer gaan ek sports he.

Hi Ernst,

Dit klink reg ek dink jy gaan ok wees.

Net my observasie.

Hi there guys you would think with a surname like vanstraaten I would be 100% Afrikaans but no I'm a rooi nek. What is a dompel pomp in English hope to see more pics soon on everything. One day when I'm big I'll also have a big pond and a small pool.

Hi Shawn

At least your first name implies that you are english lol!

Anyway a dompel pomp is a submercible pump, a pump which you just dompel into the water and it pumps. Ha Ha.

Feel free to ask when uncertain, it is being clever not stupid.

nice day

Also now went the low wattage root on my new selling ponds. The electricity consumption is a fraction of the more traditional pumps.

90 watts for 18 000 liters: PC 18 000

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I am busy changing all my pumps on the farm to these pumps and I am now selling only the low wattage pumps. This one goes for R 1260.00.
