| Hi David,

(Metallic Shusui with silver lustre) Sover ek weet kry jy nie 'n Doitsu Gin Matsuba Ogon nie, maar net 'n Gin Matsuba Doitsu.
Jy is welkom om 'n draai by my te kom maak.

| Pieter, so ver ek dit het val Matsuba's onder die Ogon kategorie. Om by te voeg "Ogon" maak dit bloot meer volledig.
a. Pure Ogons, where scales, finnage and head exhibit the same colouration. Specimens include Yamabuki Ogons (yellow), Purachinas (platinum), Nezu Ogons (Short for Nezumi = mouse) mousy/silver coloured koi or Orenji Ogons, surprisingly coloured orange.
b. The second group of Ogons are the Matsubas. Being an Ogon, these are mono-coloured koi but with Matsuba features, where each scale has a darkened centre. Nevertheless, as the head is scale-less, these koi maintain the clear unblemished metallic livery of the Ogon on their head. The prefix given to a Matsuba relates to its colour. For example, a Gin Matsuba is a Purachina with a Matsuba scale pattern whereas the Kin Matsuba is the same but on an Orenji Ogon.
Verskeie Internationale handelaars bemark 'n wit/silver doitsu vis met Matsuba skubbe as 'n Doitsu gin Matsuba Ogon. Maar ek mag verkeerd wees.
Sien byvoorbeeld http://valentinac.com/koi/ogon.html (beskrywing van alle Ogons en Matsuba Ogons, ingesluit die doitsu gin matsuba ogon) |

| Hi David,
I being far removed from "ex-perd" status hereby my attempt at a common sense opinion on your bottom drain configuration.
The objective at installing bottom drains is to remove the shit and rubbish that your beautiful evil witches of Koi indiscriminately deposit in the pond that you constructed with great difficulty, at significant cost and with grand ideas in mind.
Now, common sense tells me that when you flush the bottom drains the rubbish lying at the bottom should travel the shortest distance and as fast as possible to the bottom drain.
So in my humble opinion, considering the dimensions you gave, I suggest; Two bottom drains towards the centre of the pond. Rubbish then do not travel for more than say 1,5 meters. Accentuate the slope as much as possible towards these drains so that the rubbish will slide downhill at a scary rate.
Bottom drains add significantly to the cost of your pond but I suggest not skimping on these. Go for the 110 mm drains with as few bends as possible.
Cheers

| Paul,
I agree with you, but when “Doitsu” is used in naming a Doitsu Hikarimuji or Hikarimoyo the only time Ogon is used, is when describing a Mizubo Ogon ( A brilliantly colored Doitsu Kin Hi Matsuba) although they fall under “ Matsuba Ogon”, according to Kate McGill, Certified Judge from the UK, now residing in Australia. |
