Quality Koi Open Day – Sunday 5 April

It has been a while since you heard from Platinum Koi, and whilst you might think that this means that nothing has been happening – you couldn’t be more wrong! Firstly they have had a change in management and ownership – the farm is now owned and run by Lena and Mac Andries.

Secondly, in the interests of a fresh start they have also changed their name and are now
trading as Quality Koi.

Quality Koi reported that they have finished their first full breeding season, and have almost
500 000 young fish on the farm and would like to extend an invitation to the koi community of
the Western Cape to join them for an open day:

Place: Quality Koi Boesmansrivier, Bonnievale

Lots of Quality Koi! Refreshments and boerewors rolls for sale. They will also be dragging a
mud dam. This is open to all – bring your family and friends. This is a really great opportunity

Western cape SAKKS Koi Farm Visit

We as the SAKKS Western Cape would like to use the open day at Quality koi to arrange a Koi Farm visit and wish to invite all SAKKS and Non SAKKS members. We will be meeting at the Engen One stop petrol station in the direction of Paarl at 08:30 on Sunday morning 5 April. We will leave at 09:00 and travel in convoy to Quality koi. Please join us on this first SAKKS outing of 2009 and bring any potential members along for a great club experience.

Directions



Travel with the N1 through the Hugenot tunnel to Worcester and turn right onto route R60 towards Robertson. On passing Robertson turn right at the circle onto the R317 towards Bonnievale.

If you reset your route counter here to zero, the following will guide you through the heart of the Breede River valley with its roses, bougainvillea and Canna indica, horse stud farms, fruit orchards and vineyards. Many wine farms of note. Springfield at 2.5km, Bon Courage at 7.0km, Van Loveren at 12.4km and De Wetshof a stone throw further. Turn right at the 14.3km mark staying on the R317 towards Stormsvlei and crossing the Breede River with the narrow gauge Rooibrug a little further.

On the way you'll pass a large ostrich grower on the left and vineyards as far as the eye can see. At 25.4km you should be at Langverwacht. Turn right toward Boesmansrivier and McGregor and cross the Boesmans River at 32.0km, leaving the tar for some not-too-bad dirt road.

At 35.7km turn left at the tractor tire named Pikkie (and Platinum Koi board), amble along (do not turn off left) on a bad road, through a motor gate and find Platinum Koi where the parking is safe. (Your route counter should stand on 36.9km providing your vehicle's tires are worn to the same level as mine.)

While both routes are about the same distance from Cape Town centre, I suggest coming the one and leaving the other. If you want to miss the 12-odd km of somewhat bad dirt road between Stormsvlei and the farm, take the tarred detour to the cheese factory, then to Langverwacht and Boesmans River.
