Starting up a new pond Empty
PostSubject: Starting up a new pond   Starting up a new pond EmptyThu Apr 24, 2008 9:21 am

Hi

I am building a a new system in my garden that will consist out of 3 big ponds ... all over 40,000 litres.

I am beginning the plastering now and I need some advice.

How soon after plastering can I start filling the pond ?

Thank you.

My opinion

If you are going to paint, you will have to follow the instructions of the manufacturer. Butimine paints normally after 14 days and Acrylic and Polyutherane paints after 4 days.

If you are not going to paint, the surface must be totally dry, all one colour, and that will depend on the time of year and temperature. If it dries too fast, you have to wet it again after a day to ensure slow maturity for extra strenght. I would leave it for at least a week.

Remember to check your PH. You might have to flush it out with pool acid once to prevent a too high PH, especially if you don't paint.

Thanks Paul ... I am not too worried about the water quality for a start ... I need to get water in and see if I can get a decent flow rate.

Once I have resolved that I will be all over you guys on water quality Smile

Starting up a new pond Empty
PostSubject: Re: Starting up a new pond   Starting up a new pond EmptyTue Jun 10, 2008 10:53 pm

Smile Ek wonder of dit a goeie voorteken is ... ek hoop so.

Die tweede dag na ons water ingesit het was daar baie skuim op die water en ek was toe in Kuwait. My seun was baie angstig maar by dag 5 was die skuim weg.

So jou dam sal baie langer helder bly.

Ok Pond #2 was filled to the brim on Saturday night and then left alone ... now on Monday morning the water level has dropped around 3mm ... I am willing to assume that it is evaporation.

Pond #1 is being plastered today.
