| Yeah, its that time of year again... I am in the preparing phase for this years spawning. My friend, Eugen has given me his male kohaku (57cm) for this years spawning. I bred this kohaku back in 2008, its from this spawning. It has the exceptional red and white although its pattern is not desired. But as you have noticed, this is a Kohaku and i am planning to spawn Showa. My idea is to cross this Male Kohaku with a Showa female to hopefully transfer this males Red and white. Ill be culling for Showa and NO kohakus will be kept. I think its risky but well worth the effort. What do you think? Ill post a photo of the female tomorrow. |

| Looks very interesting! U need to post so we learn from the results. I am thinking, is the body not a bit short??? If yes, probably it can be from environmental conditions ??? and it will still have the good genes of the parents... What do U think about this? |

| Good eye Neli. Yes this koi grew up in a 7000l pond. I went and checked, it looks ok (not perfect), its a bit difficult to say a koi that is 57cm is short |

| Hahaha, ja Costa.... I still have to post the female, you might get your rugby ball...or maybe not. Spawning pairs are usually not show koi. I will be the first to admit that this spawing pair is a bit dodge...Kohaku x Showa. Eish... but ja its a experiment. Lets see what happens. I still have to get permission to spawn the showa. |

I am talking about proportions...not overall length. But are males used for pattern and females for body traits. |

| Hi Neli, i know what you mean.
I am not sure if one can say which parts comes from which parent... Ill have to make sure cull very strict on body shape. I am hoping to transfer the red and white from the male and have the body shape and black from the female. But keep in mind that i also know the heritage of the kohaku male so i do know what is mom looked like and its father. - So it does not come from a heritage.
If i dont get anything decent from the spawning - then it will just be school fees.

| Hi Wayne I think it will work out just fine. Don't expect a whole mud pond full of breeder select, but you will get your 40 or so. Remember, it took them 6 years to establish the blood line with very little good offspring the first few years. |

| nice to see the whole family gets involved.
I can just imagine my wife trying to keep all the culls hidden so she can try and save them.
Looks good, would like to see the keepers when you're done |

Sakura. lol Supremes, hmmm - one that has caught my eye but its far to early. Was so difficult to cull this time around as the fry where all so small and the patterns and colours wasnt all out yet bu i had no choice - had to lower the fry count. |

| Looks good Wayne. A bit concerned about the bloated bodies. Might be a bacterial infection? |

| ill keep an eye on it but i think its more a case of over feeding... Everytime my wife walks by its like a wave of koi following her and then she says "Ahh the are hungry...." |
