Started adding fish to the new pond Empty
PostSubject: Started adding fish to the new pond   Started adding fish to the new pond EmptyThu Dec 06, 2012 2:27 pm

Started adding fish to the new pond. They have been in the QT for 6 month barely fed. My babies suffered and dont look so good because of that...but lets hope they will recover and look better soon.
As I add them I will take pictures.
Let me know what You think.
so far I added some small fish I bought for resale ar R10 each so I see if the water is OK.
Added one showa from Sakai , showa from yamazaki, and a gin rin shiro a present from james. and my huge karashigoi...but did not take pictures.
Now I took some pictures. The gin rin showa is a present from James bred by him.
This are the cheap ones I put for testing the water.

My kujaku had a white head but now is skin and bones and from the hard water head has gone gray.
Also it has gone light in colour.

I read you can soften the water by putting peat moss in it. Can anyone verify that. and

If you do soften the water will the fish recover and clean up it's appearance?

I use clay for my pond but I don't know if that softens water, it's suppose to add minerals to it.

Darling I can not find peat moss here and it is cumbersome...Will have to live with it.
My kujaku looks terrible but there is not much I can do.
It was very nice when I bought it, but it changed. Conditions of keeping the fish matters a lot.

Cliff Darling, I tried to put in the most rubbish fish first, according to my judgement...I am still scared to put the best.
Aerial shots???? Of the fish? U can not see them from the top...The water is deep and green. I have not put yet the shed on top. Need to put the UV also. Still a lot to do, but will get there one of this days.

Peat Moss will also lower your PH a lot, you must be very careful when using it on koi.
(Actually, i don't think using peat moss on koi is a good idea.)

Normally, people who keep Discus fish will use peat moss to lower the PH and make the water softer to make the Discus breed.

Hi SAS,
I have always kept my fish in this PH and they are OK. Chris said not to mess with the PH.
And I cant get peat moss here.
I added some more fish today:
