| The day before yesterday a patch of skin lifted. I cut it off since it was hinging on a thread only...cleaned with peroxide, treated with biobandage, and put in the water, I noticed that the surrounding area was some what thinned...like a thin slice of the skin on top was missing.like as if it is thinner but with well defined edge. today I found pieces of skin hanging from the fish and large exposed areas of flesh. Thought it can be injury somewhere in the tank...but there is nothing apart from 4 round airstones...nothing that can injure the fish. It can not be birds...I dont think so. I have never seen any here. It looks as if it was a blister that lifted up, and the fish scratched it. so Far I have treated it locally only, with peroxide, and biobandage. What can that be? What should I do? |

| gees, that looks like it has been sliced, funny how it is on both sides tho.
Do you have a submersible in the pond?.....was thinking perhaps it went in tail first, but then again the tail would most likely be gone.
This is very weird |

This is very weird Cliff it is in the QT. There is nothing there to injure it. It is not a injury...I suspect allergic reaction, creating blisters that ruptured. Yesterday it was one...the surrounding skin was like thinner than the rest...like lower that the rest...today I found this. U can clearly see on some of the pictures it is not a injury. |

| Hi, That is cause by “skin burn.” I found this on Doitsu Koi before, cause by high salinity or an ammonia level. Did you check for any change in the water parameter? DO NOT USE peroxide on the wounds. It will cause more damage. Ad salt to the water, not more then 1kg per 1000lt water, if you could ad some methylene blue even better. Beware of fungi, it could settle on the open wound and cause more trouble. This condition is very hard to cure. |

I suspected the same also...I gave it suponver treatment some days ago...I think that is what caused the problem. I already used ones only peroxide to clean the wounds, but dont plan to use again. Question should I continue topical treatment with biobandage? I have acriflavine and elbagin only...can I use that? I have also gentian violet for topical treatment of the fungi. Can I use it? |

| Neli,
I would only use the acriflavine with .01% (1kg/1000lt) salt. |

| Hi Neli:
Just found this posting. That looks bad. How is it doing now?
I would use some stress coat with aloe vera, if you have that over there.
Hope its healing up.
The fish i have that the heron attacked, the scales are coming back in with some orange shade which is more than I expected.

| Have never seen that. Are you sure the fish could not have jumped and cut itself on the edge? |

I am very sure...it is in a pool like the show vats...no pipes no sharp objects...and if U look at the pictures nicely U will see it is like ruptured blisters...not and injury. I suspect combination of medication and aeronomas on a doitsu fish. |

| Yes, there are too many different wounds to have happen in a one time type of injury.
Maybe the white is because it is healing over?
Hope so.
I love doitsu and I have seen them peel because of injury and heal over nicely. Not perfectly but okay considering there injury.

| I m with Pieter on this one, I chemically burnt some tosai which I lost, some were doitsu and the skin does blister, which I can imagine must have happened here.
It looks sliced due to the splitting of the blister i would imagine.......and funny enough I also treated them with Seponver!
What do the pectorals look like?
Are the very translucent and are they also deteriorating?
Is the fish also bone dry to the touch?
