| Hi Dave, I am still at the stage where I can not distinguish my gold fish from my Koi. By the way is it ok to keep gold fish and koi together. Can they interbreed? I have a funny fish that appeared in my pond: pure white with a red round spot on the head. Will try to take a picture for u. Not sure if it is a gold fish or koi. he he he But I have been catching up, last time I asked what is a step (no body answered this low, koi uneducated, beginner), but I think I figured it out. It must be the number of spots. (hi) Now you say your fish is 4 step. To me it looks like 3.5 step. he he he But what ever it is , I think it is a very cute koi. Very very cute! Can not use other words to describe it for I am not authorized yet. But I promise you guys, I will get there. And soon. You are terribly infectious! You need to be quarantined in a quarantin pond and a heavy duty net put on top so u can not escape! You are already making me to think of a new koi pond. I just bought the plot next to me. We make our pools/ponds in a different way from you. We pack the mixture, like a wall, but first reinforce it. All pools are made like this here. Some one asked how to put stones around the pond: This is how we do it: We get sacks from potato, here they are like a plastic shade cloth but with big holes. We fill them up with rubble, stones.... Arrange them around the edge, and plaster them with cement/ building sand mixture. two ways to color them: while it is still fresh the daka with a sponge u dab on it iron oxide or we make our own dab: powdered bricks, laterite, chock stone and charcoal(just to put here and there) Second way is to paint them.Did you know that those concrete pots in RSA that look like yellowish stone, are simply painted with swimming pool acid to get that nice color? While it is still soft, u shape it like a stone, and scratch some cracks on it, spreading like veins. Very soon you will be in trouble, to tell me how to do a proper koi pond.(in english) |

| Hi Dave, from what i can see the body looks strong.
The Hi is very deep except for this one spot ....On the kois left shoulder (the 2nd hi spot) the sashi looks a bit dicy - get a bigger image and just check up on that before purchasing....You dont want to buy a koi thats loosing its hi.
Also note the faded or stained hi spots on the nose.... Looks like secondary hi spots. Is the Hi (Red) coming or going?... (Colour enhanced food?)

| Vossie,
Dit help vir die Rooi (Hi), maar ek dink die Hi is sterk genoeg. As die wit beter word sal die Rooi ook meer uitstaan |

Lyk soos 'n bietjie carp pox. Baie mooi vis. |

| Yes Admin, but I like the Gin Rin Bling fish the best. Just like Colin's father. But I am buying my first fish a perfect kohaku, then sanke and showa. So I need to learn fast what is a perfect fish, before I travel, and find out what equipment I need to buy to improve on the filtration. Today I started making a backy shower, from empty beer crates. They stack so nicely, and I can make holes even on the sides. What do you think? |

| Baie pragtige vis.

| Hi Nardus
Dainichi is purely the breeder.
Body Conformation Distinguishes Koi of Dainichi.
When they grow large, their body conformations are nomally very good. The beauty is the result of its lineage as well as the method of raising it.
Normaly very deep hi.
Dainichi won the Supreme Grand Champ a few times at the All Japan Koi Show with Kohaku as far as I can remember. |

| Thanks.
So basically this is just a Kohaku coming from the Dainichi bloodline? |

| No, Dainichi is purely the breeder and not a bloodline. Dainichi use/created different bloodlines in their breeding programs and it differ from year to year.
Their most famous bloodlines produced by them are the GEN-X or RIKIDOZAN bloodline, each with different traits.
Same with Sakai (SFF, Hiroshima) or Momotaro and many more, who became famous for their (often more than one used in the same year)bloodlines created and you won't refer to it as Sakai Bloodline. They have the Beauty Rose bloodline, the Olive, the Donguri etc.
Sakai in Niigata (Isa) is world famous for their Matsunosuke Bloodline, which are now being used by many other breeders after they won the Supreme Grand Champion at the All Japan Koi Show with their Matsunosuke Bloodline a few time in a row. |
