| Hi,
I am getting a 700gsm PVC liner made (some stuff on the show ponds are made of) 5m x 2.8m x 1.3m.
I need to make frame for this to fit into. It would be helpfull if this frame could also be broken in to sections and moved.
what would you suggest use wood or angle iron? Any ideas on how to do it?
Thanks |

| David,
You need a bloody strong frame to hold 18200lt of water! Taking in account that 1000lt. water = about 990 kg. if I am not mistaken. |

| Vossie, the PVC wont hold it. Dis reg Pieter, The water level will only be at 115cm, so not quite 18k (18tonne), but close enough. Thats why i am doing my research properly. My plan is still an angle iron and flat bar frame welded and bolted together. I know that there are some really bright engineering orientated people on this forum, thats why i am asking. |

| I'm no engineer, but know that angle iron flexes and bends too much. Perhaps rectangular tubing (3mm) may be better, or boxed lipped channel. Many cross / vertical supports. Galvanise the structure. On Koi Bito I saw a post where someone built an indoor QT / winter pond with wood and plywood, and dropped a liner into it. Good luck.

| Lipped channel. At least 50 x 100mm. My bridge is 3m wide and even 50 x 50 square tubing is useless. The lipped channel works good but only carry the load of a few people at any given time. As Jack said many support on the sides and maybe build it that the bottom touches the ground to support the structure better. Just be careful for sharp objects at the bottom |
