Pond of Ernst Van Dyk, Paarl - stunning! Empty
PostSubject: Pond of Ernst Van Dyk, Paarl - stunning!   Pond of Ernst Van Dyk, Paarl - stunning! EmptyMon Oct 22, 2007 4:57 pm

Specifications:

7m long x 2.2m wide x 2.5m deep. Volume is 37 000l (the general rule says twice as long as wide will build good bodies. I found all my fish have very strong peducles at the tail joint)

Re-inforced brick and fibre glassed.

Built settlement vortex into which two aerated bottom drains (fed by a TP 90) gravity feeds. Vortex has a sump from which a pool pump flushes it once a day. From settlement I have two Matala pre-filter units and from there to a Pedrollo HFM4 pump which pump 46 000l per hour.

From the pump the water is distributed between the following via various manifolds:

Two Vortexes fill with 200l of K1 media in each. aerated with a TP 50 air pump. (This is my ammonia filter)

3 tier stainless bakki shower with static K1 in last tray as mechanical filter. Top two trays has progressive matala. (this is my nitrite filter)

3m trickle tower with ceramic media (this is my nitrate filter)

A protien skimmer

2x 55 UV lights

8 pond retuns.

The pump also pulls from a skimmer in the pond.

Currently 15 koi ranging from 40cm to 80cm.

Running cost in electricity per month: R330 per month
(0.9kw (pump, UV's and airpump) x 24 x 30 x 51c/kw)
