| Subject: HOW TO SEAL MY POND! Fri Jan 08, 2010 11:20 pm | |
| Hi all I've been reading the posts on this forum for some time and I'm finally ready to come out of my shell! Still very new to the hobby! I'm living in George in the Garden Route and I'm busy building a pond and need some advise on sealing ... chemcrete ... marbelite ... ???? I don't think I can afford to fiberglass. The pond is plus, minus 8000L, built with brick sides. I am wanting to first plaster the walls (should I mix anything with the plaster?). I am hoping to keep this design as natural as possible.

| So I take it nobody can help on this topic. I will try to find out more myself. Thing of going with the cemcrete but would of liked to know if there was a way to make the cement more water resistant. JOna (Jonathan) |

| Hi Jona I used Coprox in my plaster. A 5kg box to one 50kg bag of cement. I used Marbeliene a Cromo-Dec product to paint my pond 32000lt and also my window area, So far it is very successful but time should tell. Should you go through my postings on Bobby new pond you should be able to see all the detail. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]I stayed in George for many years and my kids are in George. Send my regards to Charl v/d Merwe |

| Yes Jonathan CPT dare I say 28yrs in GRJ-CPT. I love George and also have an interest in two properties over there, so i still visit my kids 2-3 times a year. I will be visiting them again in the next 4-6 weeks. Charl has a few ponds at his house and also some mud ponds on a farm. In fact I think there is more ponds than house. lol The man is not easy to reach on a phone (do not like the thing) Just off Wellington street in a small center opposite a superrette there is a petshop/doggy palour that could help you to get hold of him. He also assist people with filtration and I am sure he can be lots of help to you, once you can find him. |

| Hi Bobby Looked into the Coprox option and I like it. I see you've mixed double the required dosage. I think I'll do the same .. they recommend 2.5 to a pocket cement. I see there is a CT and a PE supplier ... PE is closer so I'll try them! Thanx for all your help!!! JOna |

| [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]This is a quick sketch to what I'm working on. Can someone advise me on a pump ... thought .6 kw?? Think the water volume is 9000 - 10000L. This pond is a realy low budget as I'm still new to the game so I'm building myself. Filter one I'm filling with hair rollers ... filter 2 - shade cloth ... Top filter - shells ... the split after the pump at bottom filter has bio-balls then UV. About the pump I prefer to get something that's light on power. Thanx Jona "The pond DIY - chance taker" |
