PostSubject: UV globes   UV globes EmptyMon Feb 15, 2010 3:22 pm

Over the weekend I saw 1 of my globes of the 2 UV lights I have is blown.....its a 55w 90odd cm unit. Easy done I thought a trip to the shop and its fixed....

Three visits later and a price that my head is still spinning, between R425 and R495.......

Then i thought lets investigate...and managd to by a Phillips UV globe 55w at R205 this lunchtime.....

Based out in the south of Johannesburg, try www.technilamp.co.za or phone them on 011-839-1837

And its Phillips globes not thos Chineese imports.....

Can get 2x for theprice of 1x....... Very Happy

Yes Adi, thats exactly what i do..

I give the koi shops a skip and go to an electrical shop and i buy a Phillip 30W germicidal UV lamp for R110. (Price from last year)

My lamps are also due to be replaced although they still work perfectly. I will propably try and push through to winter before replacing them.

You know, koi are viewed as luxury and it sometimes feels as if every sale the koi dealers make are viewed as if its going to be their last sale and so its not unusual for items to have a 100% or more markup on it. If it was 20-30% i would be happy to pay it without having to phone around for the item.

This is a 200% mark-up. Decided some time ago not to buy food at one particular place, because of teh bull-s&*t story I was told.....well no more globes there either...and no support from myself, one needs to make a living...but this...wow!

And you know the guy that you are buying from is also making a profit from the lamp....makes you wonder how much does the actual lamp cost? R 60 Question scratch

Capitalism....got to love it. lol!

Wayne why pm? Must be honest don't mind paying a a certain level of mark-up, everybody needs to eat, but this is pure rip-off, From R205 to R495 is not making a living, oh, and if you buy more then 10 at a time, the price of R205 still drops down to R190.......

Adi, just as you did your homework to save you money in the end, so does every koi keeper. They now know that they can get it cheaper somewhere else so they must do what you and i did.

I took the yellow pages and started phoning electrical places. Some did not stock it but where able to point me in the right direction. By call 5 i found this price which where acceptable to me and i stopped phoning further.
