UV Clarifier Trauma Empty
PostSubject: UV Clarifier Trauma   UV Clarifier Trauma EmptyThu Jan 13, 2011 11:59 am

Hi guys...
Wanted to perhaps pick the brains of those who have more knowledge than myself... I have a 2 bag Sandfilter set-up that runs through a 30watt Zap UV Clarifier and into a biofilter and then back into my pond... system works great but I am constantly battling with the UV Clarifier... either the globe blows or the actual unit goes weird on me and stops working... I now have 2 Zap 30 watt units that I interchange constantly but still no luck with keeping them running properly. The other hassle I have is that whoever set they system up squashed it into a really weird space so it's all very tightly packed which might be a problem as well. Couple of questions: Is there a tougher UV unit I can get hold of that will last longer, or should I be lookng at one of those "inclusive" biofilter/UV combos to prevent this Zap Unit from dying on me all the time? If I do get a biofilter UV/combo, can I still use it in conjunction with the sand filter?
Thanks!
keith

Keith,

What is the size of your pump?
What is the size of your pond?
Why do you use a UV light?

Hi Pieter
To be honest I inherited the entire system when I moved ino the house... so I'm an extreme novice and I don't even know the size of my pond...
I will have to measure and do some calculations, but it's not huge... so I've just been emulating the system I have... the UV clarifier was built into the system from the start... it all works pretty well except for the UV part of it...

Hi Keith, is your UV before or after the sandfilter. If before, the backpressure of the sandfilter might cause the problems.

Maybe your flow through the UV is too large. See maximun flows:

BTW, you get a Quartz sleeve UV but it is much more expensive.

Hi Guys

Thanks for the tips

The UVC is after my sandfilter. Not sure about the flow rate, if I wanted to work it out, what would I have to do...?

Check the flow rate of the pump. If too high, you can split the flow.
