Very good sign, I always say a hungry koi is a healthy koi.
You can feed them as much as they can eat in 5 minutes. Rather feed more times per day than one or two heavy feedings.

Hi Chris, I have been changing from Aquanutro to Shogun, and my fish loves it and feedback from my clients who started to buy Shogun from me is very good.

For me, a great advantage above Aquanutro is that you get a high protein pellet(40%) that does not sink as the Aquanutro do. I want my fish to eat from the surface to enable me to inspect them during feeding times to enable me to identify possible problems at an early stage.

The batch that I got was also very fresh. Still have to see how it is going to affects my growth rates.

Chris, my parents and in-laws live down in PE and both families have koi . Every couple of months i go down / up to PE and i take some koi, Shogun and Aqua Master for them. Maybe i could do something like that for you aswell.

I know, i looked around in PE. The only decent place i could find was a Petshop in Walmer Hights called Fins.

Thanks a lot for the offer, I'll definately keep you in mind if I stumble accorss anything I can't get hold of. I managed to source the Shogun here locally at a GREAT price (much cheaper than anywhere I've come accross). I get all my koi from Knysna as the pet shops and other places here are clueless!
You won't believe the excellent quality koi we have there. Will be dragging the pond end of Jan or Feb, and will post pics on this forum for all to see. Maybe I will even take some orders......

During the Aqua Master shortage i made the following comments.

1. Some of the shogun pellets sink imediatly as they hit water and they fall apart if they are not eaten immediatly. My bottom drain and diffuser combination is very efficient and pellets that sink are drawn into the bottom drain within seconds causing the food to be wasted and adding to the maintenance of the pond.

2. Batch consistancy - This is basically just an adendum to above, some batches sink others dont.

I have been using the new shogun for the last 2 months and i can say that i dont have these problems any more. The packets that i have bought have been very consistant in the shape sizes and there has been "no" 0 broken pieces or mielies in my packets.

A few of us where standing around a pond at a pond safari today and these exact points where mentioned, everyone is very happy with the product this far.

I am feeding your product now for the rest of the season and will let you know if there are any other issues in the long run. I know that i and a few others mentioned pot bellies and things like that from the previouse formula but that observation can just be made from a more long term run with the new formula.

Paul would you rate Shogun over Aquamaster Growth?

Hi Quinton, I have never used Aquamaster, so it would be unfair to judge.

I believe it is good to mix brands, because should there be a problem with one for instance a lack of a certian mineral, Vitamin, protein etc, the other might make up for it.

My current mix is:

50% Shogun
25% Aquanutro maintenance (from an economical viewpoint)
25% Aquanutro high protein

Local is fresh and "lekker!" and I am very happy with the results since I have introduced Shogun in my mix.

Hi Stumble You must be one of a few if not the only poster from Durban. I visited the Durban show last year and you guys have amazing Koi on show. In my view the SA benchmark for Show Koi is set by Durban.

I got the shogun food, but it was in a clear plastic bag with no label.
Is that how it comes? I was assured it was Shogun.
no wonder I never saw it before. I just never looked at the unmarked bags.

It was propably bought in bulk by the dealer and then repackaged...its usualy cheaper that way.

Sorry Quinten, not at the moment. We found it to be very time consuming to post it due to the bulkiness thereof and not really worth our while. Not lekker to stand in a queue with 25 kg and normally customers want it yesterday.
