What do you think, I believe the variety is going to become one of the most popular?

Doitsu Sanke Ic98

They go for R 1600.00 and they are from Hiroi in Niigata.

What is the price of the big and small ones individually?

The big ones, 23cm are going for R 1600.00 and the small ginrins are going for R 300 - 400.00, (80 to choose from) also from Hiroi Koi farm, bred by Conias.

Very nice colours, but to maintain the color of a doitsu is difficult.

True, but it seems that the Japanese are slowly getting the hang of it. Depends on the breeder. Will have to wait and see...

Is this why some Koi-keepers do not prefer doitsu?

I am not sure about others, but this is why i don't like Doitsu.

But the 2 Doitsu in the above picture are in good quality and well priced.

My uncle is a koi dealer in Hong Kong, he's been importing koi from Japan to Hong Kong for more than 15 years. When i was in primary and high school i often go to Japan with my uncle to select koi.

We often see Japanese breeder color up their koi before they sell it to the dealers.
In the other hand, a dealer will never buy a koi haven't color up yet, because the coustomer will never buy such fish.
But in order to color up a koi, the growth and future potential of color will be sacrified.
So, the color you see now maybe is not the same color when the koi reach 80 bu.

Most fish which will win at The All Japan Show at 80 bu (80 cm) don't look nice at 20 bu (20 cm).

The above is just my comments, if you don't like it please forgive me.
Thanks!

Hi Sas
Wow, what an experience it must be to be able to go to these farms! I envy you!

Regarding the 80 cm vs 20 cm Koi. Is it not true with Koi that size do matter and that there is no "ugly" 80 cm Koi?

I am not a serious Koi person (or should I say yet as from what I have heared and read - once the Koi-bug has bitten...) and find all that is discussed here interesting and matters to ponder when buying Koi.

Thanks for the comment.

To Annette:

Is true that you will never see ugly 80cm koi; because all the koi without potential will be color enhanced at 15cm – 25cm, breeder will finish those koi in order to sell them to the dealer and at the same time growth is also scarified.

Therefore, in this case koi that has been finished by the breeder at an early stage will seldom reach 80cm.
