Painting/Waterproofing an existing pond (fibreglass) Empty
PostSubject: Painting/Waterproofing an existing pond (fibreglass)   Painting/Waterproofing an existing pond (fibreglass) EmptyTue Sep 30, 2008 7:14 pm

I am in the process of renovating an existing pond and have already patched and repaired 6 or so spots that needed attention. Now comes the next step ..painting. I have thought of using ABE Superlaykold (fish friendly version) and was wondering if anyone else has used this product and what their experiance has been. Is their an alternative product available ? Any suggestion welcome.

Hi Gazzo, being a fibre glass pond I believe the best option would be to paint it with topcoat resin mixed with the required colourant. Superlaykold does not last very long and will not stick to fibreglass properly. It will peal off.

No, you get the normal resin and the topcoat. The normal resin can actually be toxic. The topcoat is also resin but a non toxic version and a bit more expensive. All fibre glass koi ponds should finished with the coloured topcoat. You mix the colour with the topcoat before applying it. It can also be sprayed on. In the Cape, you can get it at Allied Fibre Glass, Voortrekker road, Maitland.
