That is salt in the bottom of the container to keep the snails out.

Brilliant idea!

I don't really like self feeders but I guess it does have its advantages for people that travel a lot. I feel you need to spend lots of time with your fish. That's a very nice idea you have there Wayne. No rain, wind or sun and the snails stay out. Lekka.

Had a old container...so I made it the same as yours.


I will put window patty around the hole...

You will either have to push your feeder a bit forward or cut a hole in the bottom cause otherwise all the pellets will end up inside the container.

My hole fits exactly around the feeder...tight fit! And if I put pattey for windows...nothing can enter inside the container...
Even now the hole in he box it is only 2-3mm larger than the feeder part...It is an exact tight fit.
