Thanks again for youre sensable reply's ( I am just feeding maintanance food for the time being until my filter has matured and then slowly mix in the others. )

My Kohaku seems to have damaged his right Pectoral Fin during netting when he came to me and is not using that fin it seems like there is a piece missing. Do theire fins Grow back or is this damage permanent ?

If the soft area in the fin is damaged, it will grow back. It is called the leading ray. However, if the hard part of the fin, the leading spine, is damaged, it will not grow back. The fact that the Kohaku does not use it's fin, indicates that it might be the spine that is damaged. At least it should survive. It might put the fish under stress, so you have to monitor it's behaviour carefully. It might just develop a bacterial infection, and if you see any indication of an infection, treat the wound itself with Malachite green and treat the water with Acraflavine. The fish might also be more susceptable for a parasite invasion. So you have to monitor the fish carefully and act on a suspicious behaviour. Good luck.

Normally a pectoral fin splits during netting, and this could be “fix” by using super-.glue or stitches.
If there is a part of the fin missing, it could be more serious, see if the damage part is red, if so there is infection in the fin. In that case the infected part should be cut way and treated.
Yes the pectoral fin will grow back, but if the pectoral girdle or Oyabone (leading bone) is damage it is more difficult to heal.

I have some pics but they are not to clear so I will take some more this evening and post them in the morning.

Ok I tried to net and bowl the little buggers BUT they seem to be more cunning than I am LoL and I did not want a prolonged chase so I ended up with these 3 pics after about 140 shots LoL. You can zoom in quite a bit on these pics so I hope they will be good enough to help.

If the girdle, or spine or "hard bone part" is damaged, your chances are not good.

I think you got a 50% chance that the fin will grow back, but there will always be a gape at the joint of the fin with the body.

This could take awhile, even years to heal!

If there is some infection ( fin starting to show red ) you should treat it at once!!!!

DUring feeding I kept a close eye on him and I did not notice any rednes on or around the damage fin and it would seem like he is slowly using it but only a little bit. So this is one of those cases where only time will tell what the future holds.
