Hard water (lots of Calsium & Magnesium) is also sometimes the reason for Go-Sanke to loose it's red, and causes shimmies. (black spots)
Total Alkalinity should be between 20 and 300 mg/l.

Hi Paul
Its the Matsunosuke Showa. The Red on the face is fading away.

One do not expect that from the Matsunosuke bloodline unless the water parameters are not right.
As far as I can remember, you have a Matsunosuke Sanke and not Showa?
Are you not referring to the Doitsu Showa that you have? Doitsu fish looses their colour more easily.

Hi,
I think all bloodline do have some offspring that will have a chance to loose it's color, even Matsunosuke.
The most ideal PH level for Go-Sanke is 7 to 7.5
And if the Hi is fading, try to keep her in green water for a few months.
