Hi "Sas"

They are still very young and therefore difficult to judge as they will change quite a lot.

The sanke does have a good kohaku pattern which is good and there is no red over the eyes with a V shape on the head that is still desirable.

It would have been better if there were sumi stripes on the pectoral fins.

a Black pattern on the white body of a sanke is called “Tsubo-Zumi”. A black pattern on top of the hi is called “Nose-Zumi” or “Kasane-Zumi”.
Tsubo-Zumi is considered to be of better quality and more stable, and yours have “Nose-Zumi”.

A small sanke that has very dark and large sumi pattern may lose thickness as the body grows. The sumi may break into small clots or an uneven, blotchy pattern. Yours are fine.

Some small sanke with good blood lines do not show sumi until much later.

I believe that the most important thing is the white. It should be very clear snow white and not yellowish or pinkish. Yours look good.

Hannes Uys(the SA expert in my view), always said a Sanke must show what it can do when young, referring to the quality of Sumi that already broke through. Your sanke does that in a way. (on the back)

Bodyshape is the most important aspect, but not in a small koi like this.

The Kohaku: I always like the one or two step like yours and the kiwa(sharpness of the edges) looks very good, but it can change. It is a pitty that there is not enough white on the head, but the hi is very deep and thick. For a very good Kohaku, there should be a white break between head hi and shoulder hi and a white break between last hi and the tail called odome. I think yours have too much hi, but remember, the size of the hi(red) will stay and the white will get bigger.

Only my opinion and only time will tell. In general they have potential.

Good luck.

Rgds

Paul

Lucky fish! I have been looking on my hard drive for pics of my first Japanese Koi to show you, but an orderly system is not what I have at the mo. When I find them, I will post.
Yeah, I am in CT - sopping wet but here.

Was there only Sanke and Kohaku in the box? Do you know which breeder? You are very lucky to have such a kind friend.

To Erwee1:

My friend bring me +-30 koi, they are sanke, showa and kohaku.

By the way, i am not a koi dealer.

Most koi comes from Sakai; because my firend know them well. Other from some unknow breeder.

But i will normally raise them to +- 15cm and choose a few beautiful one to keep, than the others i will sell them to other people.

NB! I AM NOT A KOI DEALER!
