After being ostracized for committing the cardinal sin of contravening SAKKS rule 74/85B7C in regard to the stocking limits of my Koi pond I am now forced to make a decision in who stay and who might have to go.

As a result I hereby request your help in drawing up the list of undesirables in my overstocked Koi pond.

Participation is voluntary and open to all categories of Koi enthusiasts irrespective of age, gender, religion, expert status etc. Your participation will be greatly appreciated.

As a matter of cause each of you will consider different aspects e.g. show quality, nice looking, totally disgusting good pond fish etc. When making your call please note that I have at this stage no intention to show any of these boys and/or girls. These are my fish and each has a history of varying length and experiences. I might share their past and lineage with you after you made your judgement and I have scrutinised the pole results.

Please rank each of them in sequence on the criteria of 1 being most undesirable and 14 being least undesirable (14 is the number of Koi involved). Elaboration and reasoning will be appreciated.

Your classification will also be of interest.

Please enlighten me; how do you measure a Koi, from nose to tip of tail or what?

In no particular order, here they are:



1 San as in Japanese or a woman’s name.



2 Michael he is a hairdresser.



3 Stefanus never get out just hang around at home and will not keep still at a photo shoot.



4 Diana paints her lips for James.



5 Johannes I don’t know his agenda but he was involved in the plumbing inspection with Mavis.



6 Alice in charge of maintenance. It may be a misconception that this classification originated from Malta refer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maltese_(dog)



7 Hendrik hangs around clubs and pubs.



8 Mavis since this photo was taken she damage her tailfin while inspecting the plumbing with Johannes



9 James he has a crush on Diana and I suspect they might have something going.

11 Maria hangs out with Beryl in coffee shops.



12 Matilda chief gastronomy connoisseur.

Please act swiftly as I am facing an extended imprisonment in the SAKKS gaol!

This is serious stuff as you have a say in the future of a selection of Koi.

Yes,from nose to tip of tail.
Looking at your passion & pet names have you considered to upgrade your filter or the pond to accommodate your Koi as per the quoted SAKKS guide.
To establish stocking levels you would need to consider, total Koi length, water volume, feeding volume per day, filtration capabilities per day.

Kois to keep:

2. I like the colours. I cant see any reason why not to keep it.
4. Sanke
9. Showa - i like this one the best. Hi showa and will have a very impressive presents when all the black comes out.
12. Ochiba Shiguru, not to bad specimin. Bauetifull netting.
13. A must have in every koi pond.

Borderline cases:

5. Kohaku, nothing wrong with koi except that it is not a good example of a kohaku.
8. Not sure what variety but the colour seems the little and too far apart.


Kois to set free:
1. - The blue on the asagi will turn darker (black) with age and the hi (red) is already to high up, although not to bad looking right now.
3. - sheshui, to many sumi's at to young age.
7. - just for being a plain white fish (suspected shiro muji)
11. - Maria has coffee stains al over.

Should it be my pond and I need to decide on looks right now, sorry my first cut will be numbers 3 and 11

So how many undesirables fell for fishing rod in picture 10 so far? I think all fish look good. They look healthy and since you don’t want to show then it will be a difficult task to get rid of them

Jammer maar ek stem nie saam nie!

Afhangende van die water toestande (sagte of harde water) is Asagi geneig om sy "blou" te verander. In Engeland is al die Asagis' se "Blou" amper swart weens hulle harde water.
Wat die rooi aanbetref, is dit noodsaaklik om te onthou dat wanneer die vis groei en groter word, dit in plek sal kom.
Die enigste kommer by die Koi is dat die "kop" mooi wit moet word, as dit oor 'n jaar of wat gebeur sal die 'n baie mooi vis wees!
