This will be my first time I am buying proper Koi and they should arrive in the next week or so. What do I do once they arrive at home? I know you have to float the bags on the water to adjust temperature and not releasing the water in the bag to the pond when you release the fish. Some will be between 40 and 60cm long. I the past I bought my fish near my home, so transport time was short and water conditions / temperature conditions were roughly the same.

Is there something special to do to keep stress levels low?
Must I try to stay away from the pond for a while?
Do I add salt after I release them?
Will it be wise not to feed them for a few days?

Hi Marius,

I suggest to float the bags a while and them empty them into a tub contain half pond water to help with the adjustment.
Then just add them to the collection and enjoy them.
Be observant the first two week of their behaviour, if they swim and eat normally they have adjusted fine.
The fish will arrive in the morning so feeding them that evening would be fine.
They should be in the bags for max 2 hours, so not that long at all.
I also add some Acriflavine to the bags to help combat bacterial infection that might happen from the small nicks and scratches they might get.

Klink vir my na goeie idee om water van die dam in emmer te meng saam met die sak se water. Gelukkig het ek darem nog nooit probleme in die verlede gehad met visse oorplaas nie. My slim dam tegnikus het dieselfde dag wat hy vir die eerste keer water in my nuwe dam ingetap het besluit om sommer al my vis ook oor te plaas. Ek het hom toe op vroee pensioen gestuur.

Ek sien uit na my nuwe versameling volgende week. Sterkte met die Bloem skou. Hoeveel Koi gaan jy in skryf, en het jy idee hoeveel mense gaan deelneem?

Nee ek gaan nie die jaar skou nie, ek het twee jaar in 'n ry beste plaaslike teeler gewen, moet iemand anders 'n kans gee lol.

Het jy sout in jou dam op die oomblik?
daar is gewoonlik so 4 damme met vis in by die skou.
Sal 'n paar fotos neem en plaas.

Ek het 0.3% in water gesit nadat ek Matala 5weke gelede in gesit het.
Met lek by waterval asook water wat ek vervang het is daar nou minder as 0.1% in dam

Jy kan maar weer insit, sal help om hulle te laat ontspan.
As ek onthou kan ek my sout toetser saamvat en check.

Hi,

onthou om die pH van 'n nuwe dam te monitor, meer as 8,6 is te hoog.
Voordat jy egter "nuwe" vis by "ou" vis in 'n dam voeg, moet die nuwe vis eers gekwarentyn word vir 21 dae of meer.

Ja my pH was so 8.5 toe ek laas by huis was maar by nadere ondersoek het ek gevind dat my dam tegnikus 8 groot sement bou blokke tussen skadunet in filters gesit het. Met nuwe filter is dit nou net onder 8.
