Hi Johan Very Happy
Welcome at the forum! This is a nice pond Sanke and I think you will learn a lot from it. Might not grow to be a show fish but will still look good in your pond. Very Happy

Hi Johan, you almost have it right.

if you are going to post links as you have then just add a [...img] (leave out the dots)to the beginning and an [..../img](leave outs the dots) to the end of your link

So your address like you have below would be between the [....img] place it here[....../img] then your pics would display as such

(right click and go to properties to see what I am talking about)

Hi Johan....fixed your pics

What do you hope to achieve with koi keeping?

Do you intend to start showing or just have a collection that appeals to you and makes you happy?

If you want to show then these fish are not of show quality, the sanke does not have enough hi on it, if you were aiming for a tancho then the red mark must not protrude into the scales on the shoulder section.

The bekko actually looks quite decent, picturing a sanke without hi and how I would like the sumi placement to be and on your it's looks pretty decent.

The kujaku has nice scale reticulation, just there is no hi\beni towards the back of the fish so the balance is totally off, would not be a show fish at all.

If you just want fish that make you happy then they are perfect for that, if you want fish that you can take to a show then you may need to go back to the drawing board.....sorry for being honest

Koi are addictive! Soon U will start thinking of showing...we have all been through the cycle...
Nothing wrong with keeping Koi and not showing...
I agree with Cliff.

I Think the bekko will develop some more.

Definately the best of the three.

Good looking fish.

Much better than my 1st three.

Hi Johan

Good starter fish to learn.

However, you probably want to know why it is not show fish.

From a koi appreciation point of view:

The Kujaku pattern on the body is unbalanced, the pectoral fins are unbalanced, the shine is not good for a metallic fish, the net pattern is not consistent, it has orange speckles across the body, it does not have a clear head but dirty black markings, the pattern has windows and the white is not snow white.

The Sanke is unbalanced, the hi might deteriorate, but most importantly, there any so much underlying black which indicates that it is going to turn out into a very black messy Sanke.

The Kohaku is a fine pond fish but the pattern is not pleasing, it looks like shimmies apearing on the right hand side and the body confirmation has a question mark, although the signs are there that the Kohaku might grow very large. The hi is nice and strong.

I agree with Nardus that the Bekko is the best of the three.

I hope you do not take offense with the negative inputs but it would be silly to point out only the good. Then you will not learn. Maybe and hopefully you prove us all wrong in the near future.

Remember that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and if you like them, enjoy. Please keep us posted on the development. That is how we can all learn.

:joker:Thanks alot to every one on their comments, good or bad, that is the only way we can learn. My goal is to get show quality koi in the time to come. the kois I have now is a good learning curve. Any comments on to where to get the best show quality kois would also be appreciated.

Thank You
Johan Theron

the best show quality will be in Japan... but otherwise just look on the site at the dealers and if you not sure about a fish ask them if u can take a photo and post it and get the more knowlagable peoples input.
@Cliff will the hi on the possible tancho probably fade and dissapear off the scales as the fish ages?? i have a Tancho with the same feature and the dealer told me he expected it 2fade??

I would expect that if it does start to fade off that it would then dissapear completely. If not then more than likely would stay that way.

If hi goes or starts going then it pretty much goes altogether from what I have seen.

The only thing you really want to fade I imagine would be the sashi as the patterns consolidate and become sharper
