Cost of Koi Food Empty
PostSubject: Cost of Koi Food   Cost of Koi Food EmptyFri Feb 06, 2009 6:36 am

Hi,

Just chatting to the factory that makes my koi food.

The price of raw materials is just going mad. Fish meal for example has gone up twice this month and now stands at over R9,000 per ton. Compare this to a price of R3,500 per ton about 3 - 4 years ago.

It seem strange as the demand for many things is falling with the world economic crises in full swing.

I also see the rand / yen exchange rate is half that from Septemner last year. This will make imported foods very expensive and my big worry - what is going to happen to the cost of Japanese koi?

Chris

A bit more than a year ago, I imported koi from Japan and had to devide by 15.

October 2008, I ordered koi and end up paying R 22 000.00 more by the time the invoice arrived. I had to devide by 9.

I have now (yesterday) ordered 1500 small Imported Japanese koi to grow on to ensure that I will have stock at reasonable prices for some time should the prices rise even more.

Current exchange: R 1 = 9.2 Yen
