They are only randomly selected from the few hundred yellow ogon i raised this year, all comments are welcome on their quality.

Your Yamabuki Ogons look nice! A common problem with them at this size is gill deformities. You must look at some of them, the gill plate make like a bubble to the out said almost like a bracket “)”. Look at the bottom photo the 3rd one from the bottom of the photo. This is not a big problem but it down grade the quality of the koi.

Hi Collin,

I also notice the gill problem this year, i raise them in a small pond. And this year i am very busy with my study, so i didn't change water everyday. Also, i don't know where to buy oyster shell in CT. Which result the water hardness is very low, and caused the gill problems.

By the way, do you know where i can get oyster shell in CT ?

Hi Sass, I don't know where you can buy it, but I often get from Sea Food Restaurants. Organise with the kitchen staff to keep it for you in stead of throwing it away. For a small fee, you will be surprised to see how many you will get.
