Ripple effect of waterfall and Venturi Empty
PostSubject: Ripple effect of waterfall and Venturi   Ripple effect of waterfall and Venturi EmptySun Feb 01, 2009 5:17 pm

I have a ripple effect that makes clarity for about the closest third to the fall impossible.
Waterfall and Venturi:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I had a black 1.5 meter pipe, sealed the sides and as an experiment, held it this side of the venturi- it is floating (as is expected) but did not look nice from our stoep (wife). Not sure about the effect before I have fixed it with fishing line. Will it be worthwhile and make a difference. I suppose I should stop next to the Venturi. And how far from the waterfall?

If this doesn't work, I can remove the feeding ring and put this pipe where it is lying on the photo for feeding the fish (the stream sometimes take the food to top drain)

Thanks for any advice

I solved my ripple problem and at the same time the foam issue like this ...

Colyn, I suppose that you have left a small gap under that log (2-3 cm). It looks very nice, but I cant picture it in my pond (to the left(facing the waterfall) is a top drain) and to the right is the venturi.

Keep well

Got this reply from Robert at Koiphen. Has anyone seen something like this?

Quote :
I like the look of cork fishing floats around the waterfalls to settle down the ripples.

Look on ebay under "cork floats" usually lots of sizes and shapes.

Another benefit of the corks is food gets caught up in them and after the fish eat the easy pick'ins they go to work on the food in the corks. They will work however long it takes to get it. Lifting and pushing the corks back against the waterfalls current. Feel like this is a good workout, maybe helps the muscle tone. Sort of like a koi in a mud pond trying to dig out a craw-fish .

What do you think, or should I do nothing, or are there other options- I've heard about glass as well, but the glass get green with algae?

The pond is 1.4m deep so there is a huge gap under the log Wink
