Pond Window? Empty
PostSubject: Pond Window?   Pond Window? EmptyWed Sep 10, 2008 7:49 am

Any advice on how to include a window on a side wall of my new Koi pond. My plan is to install this between filter pit and pond wall.
Any pro's or con's will be appreciated.

Herewith a view of one of my glass panels

I am actually surprised to see how seldom you get a glass panel on Koi ponds. The additional costs are minimal and apart from the fact that it looks nice, it is also very practical. Whenever there are problems with the fish, you can see it immediately. Very often, ulcers develop on the lower side of the fish. With a glass panel, you can diagnose a problem so much better, and you also spot the presence of external parasites like Anchor worm immediately.

You can also learn quite a lot from their behaviour, by looking at them from another "point of view"

The colours do look nicer from the top, but to have an additional "point of view" it is great.

I did not even use a frame, but will do so in future. I have just added silicone and that's it.

I used a 10 mm tempered glass pane. For indications of thickness required, you can view

Thanks Paul,
How big is your window? What material and construction will you recommend to fit a frame and lastly which silicone type did you apply?

I intend to add my window to the short side wall (Not a big window)
Pond size 4.7L x 2.5W x 2.3D

Hi Bobby, mine is approximately 800 x 500 x 10mm. I just made a "frame" with bricks on top of 190 blocks. See photo:

A frame will make it much stronger and I would use an aluminium window frame. Normal marine silicone is good enough.
