Hydrogen Peroxide (HP)

HP is one of the most powerful oxidisers available and can be used for the following:

1. To stop the activity of Potassium Permanganate. If your water stays pink or purple for longer than 8 hours, you have to add HP immediately to stop the Potassium from oxidising further.

2. It can be used to clear the brown water after a Potassium treatment, leaving your water crystal clear. It also limits the amount of water changes required after a Potassium treatment.

3. It is a potent agent to clean ulcers or other wounds and are being used for the treatment of Hi-kui. Care must be taken not to spill HP on any other areas of the fish as it might damage healthy areas or scales. It should also not be used close to the gills. (dilute 6% solution 50/50 with water before you use it on ulcers.

4. HP increases dissolved oxygen after a Potassium treatment and are also being used in emergency situations to increase dissolved oxygen.

5. A solution higher than 6% should not be used for Koi.

6. You should not use Potassium within three days after you have added HP.

7. 20 vol = 6%; 10 vol = 3%

Dosage: 25 ml / 1000 liters (3% solution)

Paul jy was reg in verband met die HP. As ek mooi terug dink aan die feit dat 40% HP nie maklik beskikbaar is nie maak dit sin

Bietjie meer oor HP -

Here's more facts on H2O2:
3% Hydrogen Peroxide (Drug/Grocery Store Variety)
Made from 50% Super D Peroxide, Diluted. Contains stabilizers - phenol, acetanilide, sodium stanate, tetrasodium phosphate among them.
3% 6% 9% 12% Hydrogen Peroxide (Used by Beauticians for Coloring Hair)Comes in strengths labeled 10,20,30,40 volume. Must have activator added to be used as a bleach. Stabilizers used unknown at this point.
30% Re-Agent Hydrogen Peroxide
Used in medical research. Also contains stabilizers.
30-32% Electronic Grade Hydrogen Peroxide
Used for washing transistors and integrated chip parts before assembly. Stabilizers unknown at this point.
35% Technical Grade Hydrogen Peroxide
Contains a small amount of phosphorus to neutralize any chlorine in the water it is combined with.
35% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide
(Also 50% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide)
Used in food products like cheese, eggs, whey products.
Also used to spray inside of foil lined containers for food storage - known as the aseptic packaging system.
90% Hydrogen Peroxide
Used by the military as a source of Oxygen at Cape Canaveral. Used as a propulsion source in rocket fuel.
99.6% Hydrogen Peroxide
This was first made in 1954 as an experiment to see how pure hydrogen peroxide could be.
