Chloramine T

It is also known and sold in the koi industry as Bact-away and in general also sold as Tosylchloramide, Sodium Salt or Disifin.

It is a white powder and in water slowly breaks down to the disinfectant Hypochloride.

It is an algicide, bactericide, virucide, fungicide and germicide. It therefore can address almost all diseases common to koi as it attacks viruses, bacteria, fungus and some parasites including Costia, Chilodonella, White Spot and Trichodenia, and at higher dosages, even Fluke.

It does not stay active for very long and can be repeated within 24 hours. Although it is believed that nitrifying bacteria are fairly tolerant to Chloramine-T, it is advisable to bypass your filter, and all other rules applicable to treatments are applicable like putting your UV off and increase aeration.

Dosage:

PH, Soft water, Hard water

6, 2.5mg/l 7mg/l
7, 5 mg/l 15mg/l
8, 20mg/l 20mg/l

As with all the common koi medicine, Chloramine-T is available from us.

Dear Admin,
That is one of the things I bought in SA.(Still have plenty of it)
Recently a question was posted is CT temperature dependent...Some people did research and it was concluded that it is not, but I found several references that say that it is..
IT CAN BE USED AT 12.5* C or above
Link: http://www.chilternkoi.baxx.net/Medications%20and%20their%20uses.htm.
It is safe to use with salt!
Can be used for fry.
Light breaks it rapidly so it is better to use it in the evening.
But according to the information I have, the dosage is PH, KH and GH dependent.
It is good U put the different doses.
I used it only ones and that is in the QT, when my fish just came, for I suspected bacterial infection, as a pond treatment.
Recently I found a publication That CT can be used as a dip or bath too.

BTW,
I bought a medicine called doxin-200 it is AB for chickens, cows...
I used it on my fry that had columnaris, as a pond treatment. It comes in a pct 200g, water soluble powder, a mixture of 2 broad spectrum antibiotics and it is cheap.
My fry had fungus like growth on the body, and after 2 treatments it was fine and did not loose any fry.
Soon I will try it as a bath for Koi with bacterial infection...dont have any sick ones yet...

I bought a lot of Chloramine-T but I see that the demand for it is not very high, looking at my koi medicine orders.

What is your experience with Chloramine-T. I must be honest, I have not used it a lot and can't really speak with authority on CT.

It is a useful tool for killing bacteria in the pond, as treatment or some of my friends use it as prophylactic.
Very good for fry!
Not harsh on the fish.
I know people that use it as spring and autumn prophylactic treatment of the pond, to reduce bacterial load.
