This is the time of the year for Carp pox to show itself. But, difficult to say from the photo. If it looks like candle wax that dripped on the fish, and more of them appear, it is most probably carp pox.

It normally shows itself on the fins first, so check if there are any waxy lumps on the fins, but the lumps can be only on the body.

I also have 3 with carp pox at the moment 2 have it only on the fins and one has a single spot on the body.

If I am correct it is harmless and non transmittant also I dont think there is a cure for it. I was however wondering if it in any way compromises the koi's imune system ? Because I have read that it is genetic ? but I have also read from other sources that it is Viral by nature ?

If I am wrong on this one pls feel free to correct me pirat

Hi,

I wrote an article http://southafricankoi.11.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=191 regarding Carp Pox/Papilloma

It is always difficult to diagnose a problem from a photo.

In this case it could be one of four “diseases”:
1. Carp pox
2. Hi-Kui (only attacks the red pigmentation on the skin)
3. Skin tumor
4. Skin cancer (not widely experienced)

Should this form of external growth be on the head or gill plates of the Koi it could well be Dermocsytidium Koi.

All these conditions could be removed surgically.

Thanks for the info, at the momment i can't tell you any more than what you are seeing.

The mark appears as a bump on the Hi underneath the skin..i have seen carp pox before and this does not appear to be the same, unless it is just starting out.

My local dealer thought that i could maybe be Hi-Kui but he is also not sure as there is nothing to see at the momment except the bump, he suggested that i should take photo and post n the forum.

Wayne,
I found that koi can develop all kinds of funny stuff during Winter and once Summer comes it disappears without leaving a mark.
Leave it as is and see what happens when the water warms up again.
