Koi acting strangly, parasites? Empty
PostSubject: Koi acting strangly, parasites?   Koi acting strangly, parasites? EmptySun Jul 14, 2013 2:26 am

Hi,

I'm new to the forum and I have a small garden pond with two Koi, four Comets, and one albino Channel Cat.
I've seen my large Koi acting strangely this summer but none of the other fish exhibit this behavior.
He (she?) will swim along the bottom of the pond and then turn and rub his side on the bottom of the pond.
This makes me think maybe there is an irritation he is trying to get too.
Has anyone seen this behavior and have any ideas what it could be caused by?
Thank you, I appreciate any help or suggestions.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

The behavior is called flashing and normally indicates parasites. Fluke normally create this behavior, but it might be another parasite.

Best would be to do a scrape and see which parasite (if any) to treat for.
