Hi. Does anybody know where I can buy a couple of decent and healthy koi in the Mossel Bay area? I have a 2000l pond that flows into a 3000l that I would like to stock with a couple of koi that don't look like guppies. The water has been circulating for 4 months now but that's about all that moves. It's time to add some life to it. Any suggestions? Regards Ivan.

| Hi Sid,
With that size I would really only keep goldfish or some other smaller species fish in there.
With koi, they need space, depth etc, you are just going to end up with short stunted fish in a pond that size.
Get lion heads, commets etc, they dont grow large and would thrive in a pond that size.
If you really want koi, then you would not be able to keep more than 3 in the 3000lt pond, so either you want 3 koi, or 20 commets, lion heads etc.......also, what is your filtration like then, is it suitable for keeping koi?

Hi Sid If you ever come to Jeffreys Bay you could come visit us, we breed with Japanese parent koi and we stock Japanese imports. Hope to see you soon @ Clif- Give Sid a break, we all started some where - just look where it took you

Sid, Cliff are right, and we all make the mistake in the beginning to overstock a small pond, but you need to start some where. For that amount of water I suggest you buy 4 small koi and learn from them, two in each pond, not more. This will sooth the eagerness to get going a little bit while you plan and build your 40 000 liter pond

I just want 4 or 5 koi for these two ponds. I suppose I will eventually build a bigger pond again. Keeping koi is like screaming down the highway on a Ninja, you never get it out of your system. I had show quality koi when I stayed up in Germiston but I sold everything chasing a stupid dream in Ireland. I have a 500 liter filter divided into 3 parts with a submersable pump in both ponds. The water flows in the first chamber (200l) that's filled with shadecloth then pushes up into the next chamber (275l) filled with alphagrog, then overflows into the 25l outlet chamber. From there it goes into the 2000l and overflows into the 3000l.

Hi Sid I have beautiful Tosai Doitsu Kohaku, Sanke, Showa from Shinoda. They are about 13cm to 17cm. I'm sure we can make a plan to get the fish to you. I will post the photos of the fish soon in my dealers section.
