I have recently built a pond in my garden and I have put 3 Koi in it and 2 Fantails, I don't know what Koi they are though, here is a pic of 2 of them, could someone please tell me what they are?

Looks like butterfly koi which are by many people not considered to be koi as such. Might be goldfish. Does it have barbels?

If it is butterfly koi, it would probably go through as Sankes.

Thanks for the reply, they do have small barbels, I am very new at this and made the mistake of buying from a petshop as I have read on websites is not the correct way to go about it, but so we learn

For the size of your pond, it is just fine.

Hi, the fish in the picture are goldfish, commonly know as shubunkins.

Thanks Dennis, I checked Shubunkins on google and I think you're spot on, they do seem longer and thinner than the pics I found though, I will definately not buy from a petshop again, I'm sure they aren't worth the R200 each that I paid for them, I'm hoping to put a much bigger pond in my back garden and stock that with Koi from actual breeders this time round to avoid another learning curve.

thats a pity that you got ripped off like that....shibunkins are R20 at most fish shops......some people just take chances!!!
