I am trying to learn how to breed. So far I have not managed a controlled spawn, for I did not expect them to breed so young. They just decided to be "knotty" and made me rush to buy 2 very large intex ponds, to put in their babies before they eat them all.
Yesterday they did it again!
Who the parents are I havent got the slightest idea, but they have been at it 5 times so far (maybe even more).
Most of the babies are GR...(thanks God!), for mutts look better when They are GR. I have all tribes here:
How they will look when they grow...no idea! And what they exactly are...no idea too.
The first 3 spawns I just spend the whole day in the pond catching babies, but number 4 I collected the eggs...lots of eggs, and managed to kill most of them. I had no live food, and had some dragon fly larvae in the pond 2-3" long that ate most of the babies before I saw them.
Meanwhile I made filters for them (so far mechanical only) but will do the biological tomorrow.
The pond is 3.6 meter diameter, and I am using 0.75KW swimming pool pump.
I made boxes (nets) inside the pond and I sorted them by sizes...
I only had egg yolk in the beginning, now they are larger and I give them every thing: pellets (tetra) flakes, chicken fish , tuna from a tin...(which I chew and spit inside) for short I am like a spitting cobra.
My dog is also so spoiled that i have to chew all his food or he refuses to eat...(yorky) so that is what I do for my pets!
Here they are. If U can guess what they are....I would be very grateful!

I used coffee grinder to turn freeze dried krill into a light powder/dust and I think it helps the grow faster and color up because it is 60% protein

Then you can add sprillina flakes and then add pellets to the grinding as the fry get bigger.


The coffee grinder works like a charm.

What is krill?
I buy shrimp without skin, dry it in the oven on very low temperature, and grind it...to powder.
I also buy spirulina powder, and feed them with that.
I googled krill...it is shrimp like???

Yes, it is much like shrimp. In my opinion is has a stronger smell and more orange color which may help with finding the food for the fry.

You don't have freeze dried fish foods that you can purchase over there? It saves alot of time.

I am in Zambia...U can not find anything for Koi here.
