Do you support South African Breeders or not? If you do please state why and if you don't also state why you don't. Rank the quality of South African bred Koi on a scale of 1 - 10. If possible name the top 5 South African breeders. (active breeders) of your choice. Smile

Hi Tommie

There are not a lot of breeders left. One of the main reasons are that you can import small fish at very low prices nowadays and it killed many breeders.

Platinum koi (later Quility koi) was probbaly the largest but there is currently nothing going on.

Orient koi bred quite a lot but also stopped breeding.

Jaco from Odendaalsrus is doing very well quality wise but not quantity wise because of lack of space.

Julian from Houtbay produced quite a few decent koi but we have to see how his latest breeding program turned out.

I will start to post and sell my latest batches from end 2012 soon. Most still in mud dams.

I am not sure of the guys from Petrusville are still operating. I was quite impessed when I was there.

I have not seen Phillip's latest batches from Knysna koi.

Who else are there?

Bernard is here in gauteng....and has large dams...and a very nice breeding outfit..plans to export.
Another one large local exporter is endeny or something sounding like that, that supplies local shops like pet master....with cheap assorted varieties Koi.
