pond - Quickest way to do a pond Empty
PostSubject: Quickest way to do a pond   pond - Quickest way to do a pond EmptyWed Apr 30, 2008 1:17 pm

The quickest way to do a pond is still the fibre glass shell option. I did mine in 6 days, 22 000 liters + filtration = 25 000 liters

Day 1 - Got digger loader out and did the hole. Fetched fibre glass pool shell while the hole is being dug (6 x 2,5 x 1.5) Inserted two bottom drains in fibre glass shell and lifted the 6 x 2.5 shell into the hole and done the backfill with the digger loader. Threw the concrete slab for filtration. 6 x 1.5 meters
Day 2 - Completed all brickwork for filtration. 6 x 1
Day 3 - Started plaster work / filling of concrete blocks on filtration chambers
Day 4 - Installation of pump and all plumbing and all electricity and completed plaster
Day 5 - Did final backfill and filled pond and started circulation via skimmer(filtration chambers bypassed.)
Day 6 - Painted filtration chambers and did coping.

Costs:
Digger loader hire at R 270 / hour = R 1080.00
Sand removal: R 800.00
Fibre glass shell, second hand black: R 5000.00
.45 pump: R 970.00
3 bag Sand filter: R 1050.00
Gravel for sand filter: R 300.00
2 Bottom drains(normal waste gully type) and 50 mm pvc piping/fittings: R 700.00 (Should have gone the 110 mm route)
1 Labourer x 1 day: R 100.00
Bricklayer x 2 days: R 600.00
Sand, stone, cement, iron reinforcement, and 120 bricks(190's) for filtration: R 900.00
Waterproof paint for filtration chambers: R 500.00

Total: R 12 000.00

Impressive and cheap! where did you buy the shell from? And how long has it been running now?

Very often pool places have to install bigger/better pools for clients and then they have to take out the old one which they sell for next to nothing. Give it a black topcoat, put a bottom drain in and there you go. This specific one was a mould used to create the shells for lap pools. (Clear Water pools in Epping)

You also often get pool shells that were damaged and you can pick it up for a song.

This pond has been running for 12 months and is very effective, eventhough I used 2 x 50mm bottom drains instead of 110 mm.

Try builders warehouse. Pumps and sand filters are the cheapest place for those type of things.

I have found builders warehouse to cost a lot more than other places because it is all under one roof.

I looked yesterday and a .45 pump is around R1600 and the sand filters start at around R1.1k upwards..

I believe Builder's Warehouse did have a deal going with Spek at one stage so they were very cheep I think that has come to an end though ...so they will be the most expensive place on the plant now.

Oops, ok. - my bad.

I bought my 0.45kw pump for R 900 and my Sand filter for R 999 from them.
