| Hi Sueq, I am trying to establish whether these are koi or comets that you have purchased?
From a pet shop or Koi dealer?

| Hi Cliff
I bought 2 x lion head fish (koi or goldfish - dunno) , 9 x 5in koi, and about 15-20 baby koi from a koi breeder who goes to Japan every year. (Mario in Walkerville) The fantail or 'butterfly' which I purchased, I got from a pet shop - he doesn't seem to be doing so well, found him on the bottom of the pond this evening, but he does get up and swim, then lies at the bottom again. Pond is about 1 800 litres

Sueq Darling, U can only keep 2 koi I. Your pond. Each koi needs 1000 liters and that is if U have proper filtration. The koi U bought are from Israel.... |

| Hi Neli, will give you details via email etc, so as not to hijack this thread. Sueq, I know Mario well and he does deal mainly with Israeli fish and does have some Japanese imports as well. Think the 1000lts rule for fish applies if you have standard filtration, however if you have superior filtration on a pond thos enumbers can always be challenged. If you do get away with your pond being so heavily over stocked, (you do have a time bomb on your hands btw) your fish are just going to end up being very short and stumped as they grow. I would suggest you rehome the koi, at keep the pond strictly as a lion heads and comets pond, those lion heads reproduce within a year and they you are going to have a ton more babies to contend with. I know you bought imports, just that you are going to have imports that will not reach any of their potential in their curent environment so why keep them then? Or else, buy a 5000lt jo jo tank, or if you can something bigger and keep the fish in their with filtration until you have the funds or means to build a bigger, propoer pond if that is the route you intend going....if not then rather rehome them and go with gold fish, comets etc Just my opinion on how I would do it |
