| Hi all
I did a pretty big water change of 50% last night to try and get rid of the tea color water i have had for the month and half. This is my water paramters at the moment, i understand that it is not the norm of the pond seeing as i did the water change but can someone tell me what is good and what is bad from the water makeup. I understand PH, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate but the rest i dont have a clue.
Water Temp - 24'C PH - 7.5 GH - 2 KH - 2 NH3/NH4 - 0 mg/l NO2 - 0 mg /l NO3 - 50 mg /l PO4 - 2.0 mg/l Fe - < 0.1 mg/l Cu - 0.mg/l
Will buy a kit for O2 tomorrow, is there any other test people can recommend i get? |

| Your water parameters are perfect.
You are taking a chance doing a 50% water change. You are running a risk ending up with a green pond for a few days. The golden rule, 30% max at a time. |

First of all I would like U to try to figure out what caused the brown color... But as a temp solution, carbon canister will remove it... JMHO! U said some of your algae died: some time dead algae causes that brown color...Can it be that? |

| Did another 30% change last night. I can now almost see the bottom of my pond which is 2.9m deep.
Neli, it must either be overfeeding or the leaves that fall in my water. I have a brazilian pepper tree that dumps tuns of leaves in my water this time of year. Next will be the red berries. I have lived with it for years but never had this problem with water becoming like tea.
I first thought that it was solids in the water that was not being removed, so i have been running my pumps faster than usual but it has made no difference. I swapped my sand filter for a bubble bead last year...so maybe the sand filter removed the tea colour in the past?...but i dont know. I am still however happier with my bubblebead than with the sand filter. Its maintenance is lower and uses less water to clean. The old sand filter worked great but was honestly becoming too much for me to clean.

Wayne Good Wayne! Us long Us U know what causes it U have solved the problem half way! I dont think the tea color is harmful, just that it does not look too good. Did U have a blower on your sand filter that U had problems cleaning it? |
