Hi. I'm new to koi keeping and appreciate your opinions.
I bought this koi from an East London breeder at 12cm
last year and now 28cm. Thanks - Tim

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

A Hi Shusui is mainly judged by the line of mirror scales. It should be in a straight line, no scales out of place, well outlined, same spaces between scales. It should have a clean head and obviously the body shape is very important.

Your Shusui is clearly a male and therefore the body shape is not very good. It has a sharp nose which is not desirable. It lacks a bit in uniformity of the mirror scales and the white between the scales puts me off. Therefore it is not a good quality shusui in my opinion. Still a nice pond fish. Enjoy!

Thanks for the assessment Paul. The bug has bitten and the koi fever is setting in...

Hi KoiTim

It all depends what you are after, if you are just starting off with koi it’s a nice Pond fish and ok to keep until you learn more about keeping koi. If you are after high quality koi then sorry this one is of low quality, this is just my opinion and don’t take it the wrong way. When I started off I also purchased pond koi for at least one year until my pond matured then slowly got rid of the pond koi and replaced with high quality koi... keep well
